Open Streets comes to Washington Street in North Wilmington this Weekend

Wilmington, DE: West Side Grows Together (WSGT) and the Urban Bike Project of Wilmington are excited to announce Open Streets: Washington Street occurring Saturday, May 21st on Washington Street in North Wilmington between 31st Street and Matson Run Parkway.

Open Streets Wilmington is a collaborative initiative of the Urban Bike Project of Wilmington, WSGT, and the Open Streets Wilmington steering committee. Open Streets Wilmington’s second location this year features Washington Street, during which the street will be closed to vehicular traffic and open to pedestrians, cyclists, scooters, skateboards, and more. This event will also feature crafts for children, a scavenger hunt, outdoor yoga and fitness classes, free bike rentals, children's activities, and much more.

Sarah Lester, President & CEO of Cornerstone West CDC, the backbone organization for West Side Grows Together, stated: “Open Streets is an opportunity to reimagine our common public spaces - the streets! Connect with your neighbors, friends, and families, and enjoy free activities in a safe environment without speeding cars for a few hours.”

This Saturday, May 21st, community members may attend Open on Washington Street between 31st Street and Matson Run Parkway between 1 to 4pm.

Open Streets Wilmington locations rotate throughout the city to highlight a different Wilmington neighborhood each month through October. For future Open Streets dates, locations, and activities visit openstreetswilmington.org.

Volunteers are encouraged to sign up in shifts for Open Streets here.

Open Streets Wilmington is made possible with the support of the AARP, Urban Bike Project of Wilmington, YMCA of Delaware, University of Delaware Living Lab, Nuestras Raíces Delaware, RD Innovative Planning, The Warehouse, The WRK Group, WILMAPCO, Jefferson Street Center, the City of Wilmington, and individual donors.
