West Side Grows Together Launches Community Survey to Update the West Side Revitalization Plan
Wilmington, DE: West Side Grows Together, a successful collaborative working with the community for the past 11+ years, is engaging the West Side neighborhoods to update the West Side Revitalization Plan (the Plan) which can be found at westsidegrows.org/about. The Plan, developed in 2011, has been the foundation for resident-driven initiatives and focuses on five core pillars including: parks & community gardens, economic development, affordable housing, youth opportunities, and community safety. The updated Plan will seek diverse resident and stakeholder feedback, envision the future of the West Side community for the next 10 years, and determine the steps needed to make that vision a reality.
Wilmington’s West Side includes the neighborhoods between Pennsylvania Avenue to Lancaster Avenue, and N. Jackson St. (I-95) to the railroad tracks west of Bancroft Parkway, including Little Italy, Tilton Park, Cool Spring, Hilltop, and the Flats.
The West Side Revitalization Plan update will take place over the next year, and kicks off with a West Side-wide resident/household survey. Through the dedication and commitment of paid surveyors and resident volunteers, West Side Grows Together will knock on approximately 1,000 doors to gauge the community’s shared concerns, hopes, and ideas for improving the quality of life for West Side residents. The survey launches this week and will continue throughout January. We need your help! If you are interested in volunteering or applying for a surveyor position visit westsidegrows.org/planupdate.
Saint Francis Hospital, a member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, and Healthy Communities Delaware are key partners supporting the Plan update through planning grants and technical assistance. The original West Side survey and Revitalization Plan were based on a model and funding provided over the last decade by the Regional Foundation, previously known as the Wells Fargo Regional Foundation.
